Il Gondoliere is a pizzeria branding project inspired by traditional Venetian culture and craftsmanship. The goal was to create a visual identity that feels authentic and recognisable while introducing a mix of crude and contemporary aesthetic.

The challenge was to balance heritage and modernity without falling into predictable or overly stereotypical Italian design elements; a vibrant brand that captures the imponent aura of Venice. Many brands in this space rely heavily on clichés, making it difficult to stand out while still feeling genuine.

The concept was built around celebrating the main Venetian character, the Gondoliere, a traditional and folkloric boat rider that connects parts of the city carrying passengers and tourists. Another major inspiration was the fantastic Italian font design heritage present in shop signs, packages, publications and much more. Once I’ve got that vision, the brand just came into life. Classic references were reinterpreted with a more minimal and modern approach, creating a balance between familiarity and distinction.

The final outcome is an unique brand applied across menus, packaging, and in-store materials. Il Gondoliere shines as a contemporary pizzeria that respects tradition while offering a fresh and elevated visual identity.
